Well, I'm sure you've ever touched a half stack while it's running, but there's alot of vibration going on there. The stiffer the material, the more of that vibration that actually gets translated into acoustical motion, rather than cabinet resonance. That being said, cabinet resonance (and therefore wood type, at least somewhat) has an effect as well.
