I definitely don't think that drugs are a good idea for musicians in general (and never the bad stuff like cocaine and heroin), but it seems like with heroin especially that bands using it can come up with some pretty good stuff, and they probably were great beforehand as well, but after they quit they start to suck. It's a pretty scary testament to the destructive power of that drug, I think.
