I just heard a test of the Digidesign 002 Rack stock, and the mod, back to back. We listened to the stock first an it sounded fine. We than swapped it with a modded unit my friend had done there and it was amazing. We did a controlled experiment keeping all the levels and the audio file exactly the same. The difference was unbelievable . The stock unit had a flat and muddy sound compared to the mod. All of the audio was like a wall of sound that had no definition or real clarity. The mod was absolutely amazing. I could not believe what I heard. It was as if cotton balls were stuffed in my ears listening to the stock unit. The modded unit was so incredibly clear I was shocked. The low end frequencies are thick and full of presence and you can really feel it. The high end was clear and precise so every subtle nuance could be distinguished with clarity. All of the mids where in perfect place. It basically sounded and felt like you where in the room of the recording while it was happening. You could also hear the recording itself, by that I mean you could hear the engineering techniques used. Things like the amount of compression and other processors used while making the recording. In short this unit was 100% better in quality than the original stock unit. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first, but after listening I am completely in awe of the work done to that unit. I am anxious to hear some of the other products they do there. Have any of you folks had work done there? I would be interested in reading more reviews on their work. From what I have actually listened to I recommend them highly.
