The difference was unbelievable . The stock unit had a flat and muddy sound compared to the mod. All of the audio was like a wall of sound that had no definition or real clarity. The mod was absolutely amazing. I could not believe what I heard. It was as if cotton balls were stuffed in my ears listening to the stock unit. The modded unit was so incredibly clear I was shocked. The low end frequencies are thick and full of presence and you can really feel it. The high end was clear and precise so every subtle nuance could be distinguished with clarity. All of the mids where in perfect place. It basically sounded and felt like you where in the room of the recording while it was happening. You could also hear the recording itself, by that I mean you could hear the engineering techniques used. Things like the amount of compression and other processors used while making the recording. In short this unit was 100% better in quality than the original stock unit. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first, but after listening I am completely in awe of the work done to that unit. I am anxious to hear some of the other products they do there. Have any of you folks had work done there? I would be interested in reading more reviews on their work. From what I have actually listened to I recommend them highly.
I too have heard the 002 mod stock vs mod back to back... and as you said...it's like going from a mackie pre to a grace or other "modern, forward, but not too colored" pre. The cotton balls example is a perfect description. I instantly CLEARLY heard what I had suspected was missing from the digi pres. Boxy, flat lows, undefined mids, and not much highs. This is probably mostly due to the analog revamp. But the inreased depth and nuance was at least in part due to the updated clock. I'd be really interested to hear the same recorded tracks output through the stock vs modded units. I'm sure there will be an increased depth of field, etc as with any converter upgrade during monitor.

When I questioned matt regarding whether the clock upgrade would improve the sounds of an in the box mix...he said, technically it should have very little effect, but that a friend who took one home said he noticed a difference. Thoughts?
