Yea, referrals are always the best. Bad news travels fast, and a crappy shop will have a bad rep. If you trust your friend, and they have played for a while, they probably know of a good place to check out. Don't judge by price alone; if the place charges an arm and a leg for something, that still doesn't mean they know what they are doing - quality work doesn't necessarily have to be at a premium price. I have a friend that does a great set-up for a 6-pack.
