How much is a fair price to charge for an install? The pickup that I have is not terribly easy to install, I figure I'll take it to a professional, but how much is too much for installation?
The only reason I ask is because it's Chicago Music Exchange, and they are not known for their deals. ![]() |

C.M.E. has a great, great, great selection of guitars. Overpriced, but amazing. I dont suggest getting work done their because of the prices. Maybe for body work, but for pickups and soldering I would suggest going to another joint.

i agree, totally overpriced. they have a lot of broken echoplexes, and they still wanted too much.

Changing pickups can be a big pain but I do it myself because I'm all cheap and stuff. It'll probably end up costing about what you pay for the pickup.

Do the smart thing and call around to your local shops to see what is available, and for what price. I would first get some quotes, than ask around after that to see who is the most reputable. Depending on how you feel about your guitar, price does not matter. The most important thing is the quality of the work, and how the end result sounds.

while i agree with the sentiment that the benefit outweighs the cost; sometimes the cost is a luxury you can't afford and you have to give your guitar over to someone you know for the "homie discount."

What's wrong with trying to do it yourself? I'd try, unless it involves cutting the hole in teh body of the guitar...

I actually have gotten really into changing parts on my guitar because it is so cheap and yields exponentially positive results. If you can spare the time I would recommend trying to do it yourself. The first job I did was a little rocky (and I temporarily lost the use of my bridge pickup a few months after I finished) but since then Everything I've done to my guitars has been great.

nothing is wrong with trying to do it yourself; but i just don't trust myself with anything that i can't replace easily....i've learned my lesson.
