Default multiple recording techniques on acoustics

hmmm i was thinking about this: recording my acoustic guitar, 3 tracks simultaneously, using 1. a microphone 2. built in preamp pick up and 3. acoustic soundhole pickup (all at the same time) and then getting creeative with mixing it. anybody ever experiment with this b4? could be interesting...

That sounds like something i would do.

On a mildly related note, on Nine Inch Nails' song Wish from the Broken album, Trent commented that the guitar sound was actually about 30 overdubs of guitars through different pedals and amps mixed together.

Default lets not forget.....

Ry Cooter, the king of the perfect mic placement.
Lets not forget his phlosiphies, less mics in the right place!
in these crazy digital times we forget the importance of less is more. 9 out of 10 ears would agree!

I've had better success with more than less. A stereo pair above the sound hole, large dia cond by the lower bout, and a dynamic up by the nut. Sounds freakin amazing give it a try. Dont forget your tube pres....

Mikegee - you might like to flip the polarity on the pickup. You might try and delay the pickup to line up more with the mic. You could do neither too... the pickup could be run through an amp even after the fact too.

The only thing I would be questionable about is having all kinds of phase issues. Although, might make for a cool Chorusy effect.

My point exactly. The same issue arises on bass guitar. When you use the DI AND mic the speaker, there is always a timing difference between the two, which creates the phasey sound you'll hear. It's not a chorus tho, that is modulation of pitch.
