whats a better guitar slide? glass or metal? do they sound different? i'm not to experienced with guitar slides, anybody know?

I like glass. The slide will resonate slightly depending on the material. This will color the sound subtely by affecting the vibration of the string. Glass just sounds, for lack of a better phrase, less metallic.

I think alternate tunings are a big part of playing slide. What I would do is get something to slide with, turn the tuners until you find a nice open tuning and start sliding around. You should be able to sound like a young Bob Log soon.

i also prefer glass (but for the clumsy, not always the best route). the sound is more mellow than metal.....plus a bottle or lighter will work in a pinch!
