Seagull MJM6 CW GT QII
I recently purchased the Seagull MJM6 CW GT QII after much deliberation and thought. I was going to purchase a Taylor or Guild but decided to go with the Seagull MJM6 CW GT QII after comparing the specs and looking at prices. I was glad I ordered one. First thing is that the guitar was shipped in an unusual Styrofoam type box, originally I thought It was a cheap rip-off. This case was quite light. I did some reading in the included booklet and the case turned out to be something quite different. The case made by TRIC is a phenomenal combination of resilience and lightness that is possible thanks to a high-tech material called: Neopolen P Expanded Polypropylene or EPP. This material is incredibly tough, light and boasts exceptional thermal properties. Apparently is insulates the temperature extremely well making extreme temperature change a thing of the past. Extreme temperature change is the thing that is very bad for guitars and this case prevents such temperature change. Also, the case is only 1/2 pound lighter than a gig bag. Very nice. Now to the guitar itself. I picked up the guitar and strummed a couple of times. The tone was bright and even. The strings rung together very nicely with clarity. The action was very similar to that of a Taylor - very low with no real buzzes once tuned to standard tunning. Immediately, I started to feel inspired to write while playing this guitar.
The MJM6 CW GT QII also has a unique pre-amp system that includes a piezo bridge pickups and an internal condenser mic inside. You can adjust the phase between the mic and the piezo pickup to eliminate unwanted frequencies. When ever I adjusted this, it created more feedback so I just kept the phase in the center. The sound of the electronic system was great. The only flaw I found was a weak signal for the high E string which was a little annoying. I wrote their support to see how this is could be resolved and I am waiting for a response. Overall, I am very pleased with the quality of this guitar. I think all my research payed off, I feel as though I have gotten a guitar that Martin or Taylor would have sold me for twice the amount. It seems the Canadians really can make great guitars. Watch out Taylor, Martin and Guild. Seagull is giving you a run for the money!
