Default Does personal behavior and spelling mistakes equal lost fans?

I'm no fan of Creed's music (to say the least), but it seems to me that former lead singer Scott Stapp's personal behavior has resulted in the fans (mostly spiritually-minded young people) turning away from their music:

However, R. Kelly's fanbase remains nearly as strong as ever in spite of his personal foibles and strange behavior:

Does bad press turn away fans? Would you let something like this stand in the way of you enjoying or admiring an artist's work? Why or why not?

Maybe part of it has to do with Creed's spiritual message.

R Kelly never seemed to be claiming anything that he contrasted with his behavior.

I like some Scandinavian Black Metal, but am not a fan of the whole can of worms that comes with that lifestyle. Its interesting how Burzum seemed to get more cred from going to prison for murdering his bandmate. I think his later albulms were really good, but i'm not really into murdering bandmates.

hehe I don't think you covered the spelling mistakes losing fans so I'll take a hit at it.

Scott Walker releasing an album as Scott Engel (name by birth), Dino Valenti having his album pressed as Dino Valente (error by album designer), The Young Rascals droppin' their "Young" part of the name. Those are just a few examples of great artists who literally lost a substantial part of their fan base (not all of it though of course) because of their mispelled or differing names.

Sorry, it was a Scott Stapp tie-in; he had an incident that Chart Attack reported on - prepare for epic mistakes:

Scott Stapp Seeks Forgiveness; Spelling Lessons Would Help, Too

Scott Stapp

Scott Stapp is feeling guilty after being arrested for assault after a domestic dispute on the weekend, but he also wants folks to know that he believes that things were blown out of proportion and that he and his wife still love each other.

The former Creed frontman probably doesn't want people to know that he's a poor speller and grammarian, but the cat was let out of the bag after he issued a public apology regarding Sunday's incident. Here, in all of its grovelling glory, is Stapp's statement:

"I am truly sorry and seek forgiveness from my wife. As she has done the same seeking forgiveness from me. We both know we were wrong in how we handled the argument and in some of the allegations that were made. Now we are tring to move forward as a family.

"Things were stated to the police in the heat of anger that were not completely accurate. Things have been said to the media and reported after the fact that are not accurate as well.

"As in most cases like this, the next day everyone is sorry and wishes they didn't get the police involved and said what they did about their partner. We are no different.

"My wife and I love eachother very much and are activley seeking support to help us resolve this tough time and bring our loving family back together as one.

"Together, with counciling, as well as working on changing area's of our lives in a mutual effort to learn, grow, and mature positivley as a Mother, Father, Husband, Wife, and Spiritual human bieng, we will overcome this

"We would also like to apologize to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Dept. for calling them to our home and taking them away from the very serious and dangerous job of protecting our community. Anyone that was effected negativly please forgive us as well?

"We would also like to ask that the media please allow our family to heal during this painfull time and remember we have children. So please take that into consideration and respect our privacy and let this go. I know you would want the same if the tables were turned.

"God Bless you.

"Scott, Jaclyn, Milan and Jagger Stapp"

Yea, it does affect me. Not that it truly should, but at this point I feel that music is so much from the soul that you can't hide what it looks like. Especially in our country, where paparazzi run wild. If people seeing you doing something stupid, unfortunately, there is a cause and effect.

When the video came out with Scott calling himself the king, all I could think was, "I knew it".
