Default ipod......generic term?

i wonder, will ipod become the generic term for mp3 players (if it hasn't already) to the digital media generation? it seems like most manufacturers only make docking stations with it in mind. what about other portable mp3 manufacturers.....is this further driving the wedge between their devices (which could possibly be better) and popular culture?

I believe you're correct. Most mp3 accessories either have the white glossy finish associated with iPods, mention in passing something like iSofa ... iSpeakers which is iRelated to an iPod , or have some passing mention of something resembling an iPod. I don't think most manufacturers solely focus on iPods though. I see a bunch of cheapy speaker docks or accessories which appear more to function as one-size-fits all mp3 players.

Anyways, huge marketing blitzes, tie ins with computer hardware/OSes/Programs makes it be the big gorilla in the room whenever someone mentions popular culture. Which is why I see Microsoft is attempting to create a competitor in Zune.

Apple has been starting to object to this. Apparently they're threatening to bring some kind of legal action against people using the term 'Podcast' without their permission. Now that it's a noun and a verb and there are a lot of recording kits out their with the word Podcast as part of the retail name, this could get kind of ugly. I wonder if even a company like Apple can stop that kind of momentum.

apple culture is spreading fast and no one can stop it, only time. how many products now have been stealing the prefix "i" for their names - mostly because it's a hip buzzword, like extreme used to be in the 90's. soon enough the trend will shift and it will be another must-have product that will revoloutionize our sociotey.

"Moreover, the term POD has also been adopted and used extensively in the marketplace by consumers as an abbreviation to refer to Apple's IPOD player.""
Really what I think of when I head the word Pod is those things from the movie Cocoon. But alas, I guess those are cocoons. Anyhow, what about the freaking Pod, Line 6's little thingy? I can't believe this (as I type this on my iBook). Anyhow. I have a side project called I Steal and haha we show up third and fifth on a google search:
