I've been using Sensaphonics molded plugs for about a year now and I don't leave home without em. I like that you can interchange the dB dampening. i have -15's and looking to get some -25's for small room rehearsals. i highly recommend them...and they're in town.

I too swear by em. They make wearing plugs tolerable. I even mix gigs with em in alot of the time. I've got the 15dB pads in 'em, of course there are times that I yank em out to double check that what I'm hearing with them in makes sense w/ what's really going on, but I'd say they're like 85% accurate (a little bit of top end loss, but that's it). At the very least, they're easy to pop in when you're starting to feel ear fatigue, and it keeps me from waking up with "cotton ears" the next day.

Most shows, I wear em, and never even notice they're in.

Best 100$ I'll ever spend.

Which is smart because..oh wait, no it's not. Unless you like being snuck up on and mugged in which case I'd be happy to oblige.

i think the vic firth isolation headphones are the best thing ever. For protecting your ears while drumming I like them so much better than wearing ear plugs. It's also nice to have the 24db reduction plus the ability to feed your metronome right into them. Anyone else use these?

no, i'm fine....they don't keep you from hearing entirely; but you are right, most (if not all) muggings are due to the victim wearing earplugs.

I used to wear molded earplugs, but I kept losing them and got sick of paying for them again. (They never save the mold). I also used to wear earplugs everytime I rode the train.

I still wear them during practice if we are playing particularly loud, but I don't wear them that much anymore. I don't wear them on the train. I don't wear them at really good shows. I generally don't wear them unless I feel like my ear drums are rupturing.

People naturally go deaf as they get older. I don't know what everyone is saving their hearing for? I understand there is no reason to be reckless, but there is definitely no reason to be neurotic about it. You are going to lose your hearing whether you protect it or not.

Very true. And as you get older, the new music really starts to suck, so why would you want to hear it anyway?
