Default Do you wear earplugs to protect your ears?

If you dont, I highly suggest that you do. I wear mine everywhere in the city, and on the subway (subway db levels can exceed over 80 db!)

I need to get some plugs. That squealing sound you hear on the train that can sometimes last for a minute feels like it's shreading your ear drums. I spend about half the ride with my fingers in my ears. The strange part is, I'm the only one. A couple of people make a face but most act like they don't even hear it. Strange.

I always carry my plugs in a case in my pocket; i sometimes wear them on the street as well, or just plug my ears with my fingers when sirens go off.

Thumbs up

Yeah I agree with all that, but the times when I need them the most, I dont wear them.
When I drum, any and all plugs that I have tried mess severly with the attack that I hear. When I'm wearing plugs and playing, it just doesn't feel right. I've heard that eventually you get used to it and adjust, but I have not experienced that yet. As an engineer I realize the danger and stupidity of not wearing plugs, ( I mean come on this is my livelyhood). but to be honest I dont like it and I never have.

I felt the same way. I suggest getting custom fitted plugs. There is somthing to be said about high db, I think its easier to get caught up in the music when its louder than hell! plugs take a while, but you definatly get used to it. Now I feel that in high db situations I actually hear better with the plugs in.

I never used to wear plugs, but recently made the switch. I can tell that I've lost some of my hearing, and I aim to preserve what's left. I didn't have such a problem when it came to playing guitar, but man did it mess with me while singing! Now, however, I find I can hear my true voice much clearer, which makes it a lot easier to hit the notes I'm going for.
