there are two things that i hate about interviews... 1) you have to make sure that you say things that are quote-worthy... this is especially the case with bands and group interviews. you all want to get at least one quote in there, since if you don't someone will feel left out after awhile. 2) misquotes... you put an effort forth to say something worth quoting, and then they just take it out of context and paste it into their article.. it always seems to happen to me... i mean, it's probably because i'm not the most eloquent speaker, but there must be some way to phrase your speak to avoid being misquoted. anyone have any experience with this they'd like to share?

Or when they print your names 3 times in the course of an interview and spell it differently and incorrectly each time.

It was a paper mag interview, just a zine. Rather than Les Ohlhauser, it was:
Lee Ohlhauser Les Olhavser Les Ohlhauseron |

We got lucky, my band got interviewed by Recoil Magazine based out of Western MI. They did a really good job! As soon as I get a copy I'll post it.

my policy, no interviews. it doesn't offend anyone, you can't be mis-quoted, you don't have to answer inane queries about how you spend your time off, and you retain your mystery.
many bands don't (or for a time they won't): belle and sebastian, tool, radiohead (but that was a lie), etc. |

Besides the "head editor" debauchery that can happen with interviews, I typically prefer an interview to an album review. At least you learn something about the artist in an interview...where as a review is a writer (pardon my french) gets their jollies off on paper. hi oh!
