I've been weighing the options between Ifanz and Taxi. It's been a while since I've gone over the details of both companies but I remember one was a bit more oriented toward songwriting, even for movies, TV, anywhere you could make $ with a song. The other was more bands and soloist related. Check out IFANZ as well!

Does it cost money to join and have them help you? If so, I would say its a no go. I heard years ago, you should never pay to play, book, etc because if you play good enough and long enough it should come. I don't know if I really believe that anymore, but still, paying is bad, playing is good.

Pay for play is a raw deal; but if it is people may still take the gamble for the slim chance that you can be as successful as one of these lucky people:

I was thinking of joining Taxi for awhile, i've heard some really nice things from songwriters and guys who work in jingle houses around Chicago about it. Not so much for the artist side, but if you're looking to write and sell songs it's supposed to be pretty cool. They do stuff like consulting you on your songs and actively trying to improve your stuff, as well as tell you if labels are looking for specific styles of songs.

I just read a great article in an old tape op about this guy that does music for MTV. He said that he does things on spec (making something without the guarantee they will use it, for free), and if he has something that people are looking for already, he will send the cd for them to use and not have to make a fresh track. I can see how a service like that can give a bit more insight into what people are looking for in that field, definitely.
