Default Strings?

What does everone prefer? Flats, rounds, etc? It obviously varies from style to style. I like trying to go for that Paul McCartney or Motown dead thump sound when playing bass. Flat wounds help with this, but I also use a piece of felt by the bridge to deaden the sustain. Anyone tried using those nylon wrapped strings? They are usually black, anyone know what I am talking about?

heavy gauge; 2 14's on the b and e strings....flat wound sound gross to me. i like DR's or D'Addarios; even earnie balls are ok. heh, heh, re-enforced ball.

Roto 45-105's Stainless Steel. last longer than nickel plated and are brighter. can be a little rough on the fingers and frets, though.

I like ernie ball regulars, if you stretch tune them as soon as u put them on, they last a long time, and stay in tune fairly well depending on the axe.

i hear if you boil strings they will regain some of the previously lost brightness; but who would be such a cheap bastard when the trouble of doing that would be more than just buying a new set of strings?

They'll regain a bit, but I don't reckon it's enough to make it worthwhile. I've heard of some dudes boiling bass strings before putting them on, to do away with the tuning issues of new strings. Anybody know if that actually works?

Boiling does work, but only regains the sound for like a week. Way too much work to go through, stop being a cheap ass and buy new strings. BTW, I love my string boiled with onion, and garlic. mmm mmm mmm
