As a 6-string native, I'm all about my super-cheap Epiphone EB-0 for its short scale. A real Gibson EB would probably be awesome.

Anyone played the Fender Mustang bass?

Default Best Bass

If you take out the price consideration I like Ken Smith and Tobias for modern, and Fender P and Jazz basses for old school

ive been using rickenbacker for nearly 8 years, i love them for the original and most melodic sound. no other basss sounds like a ric, and not many feel as good. i have a 1985 4001 jetglo, and a 1974 4001 maple glo.

warwick makes a great fretless, but im not a big fan of their fretted basses.

Yamaha BB2000 (i would love to get one of these)
Gibson (Thunderbird, Ripper, EB0, EB-2 Hollow Body, RD)
Hagstrom (HIIB, Concorde, H8)
Hofner (whatever if the Beatles used it, it's a great sounding bass)

Personal fav: old hofner. coolest tone ever. I don't have one, but have always lusted after one... instead I'm stuck with my old high school purchase which I still play to this day: a carvin lb75 five string... i hate the thing... no character at all to it, but it is versatile.
