Depends on what I'm after:
"Doonk" - Rickenbacker 4001 or 4003 "Bumf" - Hofner Beatle Bass "Dip" - Gibson Grabber / G3 "Grrank" - Fender P w/DiMarzios A "gulp" -ish "Doonk" - Gibson Thunderbird "Booooom" - Peavey T-40 w/flatwounds "Gnar" - Danelectro And while I'm on the subject, lemme tell you the neatest studio trick I ever stumbled across re: bass. If you finger-pick basslines on a Yamaha FG-340 acoustic gtr, mic it with an LDC and throw a MaxxBass plug on it, pow: instant 60s orchestral upright bass sound. -r |

I'd have to go with the 4003, or a nice 70's Fender Jazz bass; however, I'd like to try out one of the new Jag basses too.

My favourite basses are Tobias and Modulus 5 strings and MM Stingrays... however... I currently own a Fender Marcus Miller signature 4 string (about $1000.00) and a Fretless American Delux Fender Jazz (4 string, about $600.00). I Love them both and would be content if i was never able to own another bass.

I'm really digging my Stagg Musicman-copy. It's one great bass for 100 pounds/200 dollars.
