hmmm i am thinking about recording some new music soon. has anybody out there ever tried bowing a fretless electric bass guitar? i imagine it could sound interesting... i have a pretty basic yamaha... is this a too far out idea? or do-able? i also have a e-bow, anybody try that either on a fretless electric bass guitar?

i've seen it done live. a band i saw recently had a bass player with a fretless electric bass and used a bow. it sounded pretty good; he also used some different effects too.

I have tried using my ebow on a fretless bass. It is really tricky to get it to work on the strings. Mainly because the strings are much wider and the ebow doesn't sit easily. ebow bass sounds incredible. if they haven't they should consider making one to sit on bass strings better.

One thing to keep in mind is smoother strings will protect a bow. Regluar round wound strings will quickly tear up a bow. It's best to hunt down some coated or ground strings. It doesn't matter if you're J. Page but bows can get expensive for the average player.
