What will be the tonal difference between series and parallel/

I think the series/parallel thing might have something to do with being able to switch the pickups in and out of phase. My dad has a G&L with a bunch of fancy switches that let you do that kind of stuff and you can get all tinny and weird if you want.
I would very much like to have one of these Jaguar basses, though I imagine that I'd just wind up ignoring a lot of the extra switches and instead finding one or two tones I like and sticking to them. |

Do any of you RUSH nerds know how the Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass pick up's work?

Plish, I believe they are set up for standard usage. Controls: Volume 1. (Neck Pickup), Volume 2. (Bridge Pickup), Master Tone. Both are passive vintage single coil JBass pickups. Blend and volume is done with the individual tone knobs, no toggle action.

in terms of pure visual appeal, fender seems to have that down. i've always been a fan of the jag guitar's design, and this bass version looks even better! has anyone played it yet?

Played it at the store. Extremely heavy & has a ridiculous amount of control over the tone. The red is great, but like any Jaguar, I wish they sold the sunburst with the tortoise-shell pickguard.
