Default Best Bass overdrive/distortion

I've been using an old 90's Russian Big Muff. It's pretty nice but really cuts the lows. I'm looking for something for a thick, bassy fuzz. I hear great things about the Z Vex Wooley Mammouth, but it's a little spendy for me. Anyone have favorites under $200 or so?

Man I really like using the Russian Big Muff but my last band thought it was too muddy and were always pushing the yellow Boss Bass OD on me. It does have more definition, though I still like the Big Muff.

I hate that boss ODB-3 bass overdrive. It is a fizzy noisy piece of garbage. It's cool that you can blend the dry signal, but I actually think the OD-3 sounds better on bass, but hey what do I know, I'm a guitar player and like a very mid-range bass tone. There is a simple mod you can do to a rat to give it more lowend.

GO here:

I haven't tried it yet because I don't want to mess with my old Rat that I love from the early 80s. Once I get a newer one though I'm gonna try it.

I don't really like the big muff for anything. It's kind of an obnoxious fuzz to my ears. I definately prefer what the pedal makers calle overdrive to what they call fuzz on any guitar. The boss works well.

Anybody selling a bass distortion of sorts? I'm using a boss super overdrive (I just started being a bass player, i'm a guitar player usually) and it's not cutting it.

Roger Mayer Voodoo Bass is my weapon of choice.
I broke the output knob off a few months ago but i haven't neede to touch it yet anyway.
Doesn't kill the meat too much and sounds amazing while the batteries are dying, true bypass and two outputs.

I personally don't like any bass distortions. I like the way a guitar distortion reacts with bass...gives it a strange, super fuzzy sound and it brings out different parts of the tone. I also dig using an eq pedal and a distortion pedal to get bonkers fuzzy bass tones.

THRASH.

I saw a band last night where the bassist was using a big muff through an ampeg head and swr cabinet. There just wasn't enough low end coming through when he had the distortion on. I was thinking that there should be a pedal that you can mix in a clean lowpassed signal in with the distorted signal. Does anybody know of one that does this or something similar.

Or an in-line crossover/mixer that routes the high pass signal to any fuzz stompbox you want, then remixes the output from the fuzz back in with the direct low pass and sends it on to the amp. Hey you should patent that if it doesn't exist! Then sell the IP to Radial!
