I'm looking to change my pickups in my bass. I have an Ibanez SDR 5strng. I want a low thick sound before eq'ing or anything I want something heavy. Also a heavy gauge string. As you may know Ibanez has a naturally bright and sort of thin sound. Of course it's my first 5 string bass and I'm a drummer so I'm not really looking to buy a new bass. Prefer to spend money on drum and recording gear

What style of pickups does it use? Are they single coils? If so, are they split coils like on a P-bass?
I know Seymour Duncan makes those Quarter Pound P and J-style replacement pickups. I'm planning on getting some of those for my bass eventually. Those are supposed to have a nice, thick, hot sound. |

the only problem with ibanez basses is that they usually use odd shaped pickups (esp in the 5 string versions). you might wanna check into bartolini pickups. they usually have the odd shaped pickups for stuff like that, and see if they have any charts as to what their volumes are. The higher the pickup is wound, the more output it's gonna have.

Oh yeah, I forgot it was a five string. Yeah, those Quarter Pound pickups won't work (unless they make a five-string version that I don't know about). I don't know a whole lot about bass pickups to be honest but I do hear the name Bartolini in conjunction with that modern variety of bass like you have a lot.
