Anybody use cabinets with an 18 or an 18 in paralell with some 12's or tens?

It seems that it takes a lot of power to make this effective. Anybody gotten good results with an 18 in their setup?

I had an ampeg 1x18 in conjunction with an SVT410HE and a Sunn 300T. Loud as all hell, but not so practical. It's a really flubby sound. There's barely any definetion out of the speaker at all, but it's louder than hell.

right, that's exactly what i'm looking for. Like the eighteen is only there to be felt. and the others are for the definition. My friend has a 400watt ampeg tube and a sunn cab that has 1 12" and 1 18", but it doesn't seems to get as loud as it should even doubling the inputs (you can do that on the sunn cab). You know you know its there, but its not knocking you over. Maybe what i'm looking for is just a pa sub and an 8x10. that's practical

One bassist I recorded had a Galien-Kruger with a 2x12, 4x10, ans 1x18. If I was standing close enough to the stack while he played everything I looked at would get a little blurry. I am not sure how much of that was due to the 18" though.

I've always been a fan of 15's for bass. I feel like 10's don't start to sound good until you are a few yards away from the cab. Tuning is hard to hear when you are close up to a cab of 10's. They do have great definition though.

I think your idea about a subwoofer is right on. But instead of an 8x10 I would say try a 4x10 and 2x15. 8x10's look cool but they are so hard to lug and the two 15's will really help you hear yourself on-stage.

Two 15s plus four 10s? If it were me, I'd make do with a single 15. Depends on how large a component of the band's sound the bass guitar is supposed to be, I guess.

yeah I'm really into the idea of feeling the bass. I don't think I'll be at a 215 and 410 point for a while though.

I have a Carvin R1000 I play through a 4x10 and a 1x18, or occasionally I use a 2x15 instead of the 18. I run it Bi-amped so I can control the amount of sub depending on how bad I want to piss off the neighbors
