For a good all-around hi-hat it's tough to beat a New Beat, though the Quick Beats have a nicer 'chick' sound. I always liked the sound of the Paiste Sound Edge hi-hats that Terry Bozzio used when he was with Frank Zappa--the ones with the wavy-edged bottom hat. The Zildjian Mastersound (which also have the wavy bottom) are nice-sounding too.

thanks everyone. i saw these great old looking hats called spizziris today. I'm still looking.
I've only had fourteens and thirteens before. Now I'm thinking about getting fifteens. I just think bigger cymbals are more fun to play, if they're not too heavy. never recorded a set of fifteens though...

It's weird but nobody mentioned Sabian except B8. I still think those suck. I tried out a bunch of different ones yesterday. I think I'm going to go with Sabian Paragon, fourteen inch. They sounded great.
