Some drummers just don't break sticks. If you continually are shredding or breaking sticks what are you doing wrong?

To avoid breaking sticks: 1. Make sure you strike accurately.
2. The edges of cymbals and rims of the drums will wear them down quickly. 3. Playing terrible music too loud will upset your sticks and cause them to crack up! ![]() |

I used to break alot of sticks when I was younger. I had a lot of energy and needed to get it out. At that time my band mates were also much younger so they had their amps up as loud as they could get them, with or without ears bleeding. That made it so I had to play so much louder and harder just to be heard in all that mess. Since than I have learned the art of dynamics and control. This has lead to thinner sticks and little to no breakage. I will still get a broken stick every now and then, but only when I am really rockin out hard on an awesome song.

I have a drummer friend whose MO is pretty much to beat the drums as absolutely hard as he can, and he breaks sticks, cymbals, and heads constantly. It's kind of a shame because cymbals don't sound their best when you are smashing them with all your might, but he just kind of sheepishly shrugs and says that he learned how to play wrong and it's too late to change now. He's got a unique drumming style, which is cool, but that's the only sound he can do.

Whoopy, does your drummer have expensive stuff, or psuedoexpensive stuff? If so I imagine he would be less prone to breaking things that are expensive. Maybe try those Metallica drum sticks, apparently they are almost impossible to break.
![]() imagine how many cymbals he can break with these bad boys ![]() |
