I have an old one I got second hand. The pads have a lot of cross talk wich makes it useless for most applications though. Is there any way to repair these?

I have a Synsonics pad made by Tyco and it rules. So much noise in there. Really rocks when the tempo drifts alittle bit too. I use the wall wart from my Atari with it.

One time I went into a pawn shop in Iowa City and they had an ancient Simmons electronic drum setup with three or four pads and the brain unit. They wanted $200 or $300 for it, I think. I briefly thought it might be cool to have, and then I remembered Chad Wackerman's drum sound on the 1984 Frank Zappa tour, and I thought "nah".

i've got a DrumKat v1.0 that I adore. 10 pads, 8 trigger inputs, tons of sensitivity curves. No sounds, but you can trigger them off of anything with midi.

I also bought a Simmons drumkit about a year ago for $100. Brain, pads, etc. Barely any hardware, but hell, it was $100.

I got it home, tried it out, and hit the snare. As soon as I did it I recognized the sound but couldn't pinpoint it. Hit it again. "what the hell is that from?" Hit it again.

I gave up and went over to my friends house. As I got into the car, Blue Monday by New Order came on. SAME EXACT SNARE DRUM. I knew that I knew it from somewhere.

Yeah, it may be a lost cause. There is a control on the brain called xtalk that helped a little but still I would have toms triggering off of cymbal hits.
