Default What tom size do you like: 10/11/14 or 12/13/16?

Or some combination of those, or something else altogether? I find myself digging a lot of drum sounds from all sizes of kits, so it's kind of tough to decide. I think 12" and 13" rack toms are a good compromise between big and small. I like 16" floor toms a lot more than 14" ones in all cases. I used to play in a band with a guy who used a Ludwig with 13", 14", and 18" toms. Right now I usually play my drummer's nice DWs, and he has a setup with 10" and 11" rack toms and a 14" and an 18" floor tom. They sound great, but I want a little more thunder sometimes.

hehe this is why i like midi drums, so tweakable, switching out different drum sizes and tones and such. of course, comparing acoustic to midi is apples and oranges, but eletronic drums and midi do offer more on the fly options, especially while recording.

My drums are half of a 1980s 11 piece Ludwig set. It had two bass drums. I ended up with the 24 in kick, fifteen and sixteen in toms; and right now I've got the heaviest drum ever as floor tom, a Slingerland 18. That thing has to be at least 11 ply and made of marble . It's just as heavy as my kick.

A lot of times I think these drums are just too deep. It seems like the heads are always bothering eack other. I have yet to try and match the bottom head to the top, coating and thickness wise. I wonder if that'll help.
All things aside some insane people will put up a kick drum as a floor tom. Anyone know what size drums Swans used?

I likes my 10" 12" 14" 16" and would never record on an electric kit. I love the sound of acoustic drums. Tho I mix electric with acoustic.

He's supposedly playing at the Zappa Plays Zappa show coming up. I wonder if he'll be using that kit. I hear he's got three identical ones stored at strategic points around the world so he always has one relatively nearby for whatever gigs he's playing.
