Default DW drum key

Does anyone know if it is only DW that requires a specific slightly smaller key?

i know that sonar needs a proprietary drum key that uses a little bar in the middle, kind of like a flathead screwdriver inside a drumkey. it's weird.

Yeah it is weird. why would they do that? Turns out the Iron cobra uses the same sized key as the DW.

Hmm, I've never noticed that on my drummer's DWs. I guess it's possible though. I actually have an Iron Cobra--next chance I get I'll take the drum key that came with it and see if it works on the drums. Of course, if I were him, I'd just put regular size tension rods on it to avoid the confusion.

I hate those dumb Sonor tension rods, although I guess it's not so bad to just be able to use a screwdriver.

The key I have is from a DW5000 bass pedal set and it's just a little tiny bit too big for the Iron Cobra. Then, any standard key is in fact just a tiny bit too big for the DW5000s. Only reason I can see for the slight difference in size is that TAMA is in Japan where it's metric system and DW is in California
