Default How did they get this guitar effect?

I'm not sure what this song is as it was posted on another board, someone was looking for the name and info for it.

anyways I'm looking to get that sound/effect on guitar after the second crash is hit on drums for the first time.

http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/4owz0/DT-part

just after that sound the rhythm guitar comes in.

it sounds like feedback and Ive seen it done with a blue man group song before on video...that time the guy just put the guitar next to a microphone or something like that.

I can do harmonics but without any type of volume pedal it just starts full volume instead of slowly fading in like this audio clip.
