Default Line 6 Amps

I'm a casual/serious player not really planning on gigging or anything, more for a home project studio where i write music from. This thing seems like it'd be a cool thing for me to have since I can dial up a hundred tones. But.. as always if this thing sucks.. it sucks and i dont' want it. Anyone have any experience or opinions on these?

I was mainly looking at the Line6 Spider III

i've never really liked line 6 amps. i've known some people to have good luck with the pod's for studio use, and some of their pedals are definately useful. but their amps are not something i've ever been impressed with. for home and practice use.... i'm sure they're fine. but if it doesn't have some power tubes, to me it generally sounds pretty cold and lifeless.

i couldn't agree more. if you're using it to record, just save yourself the time and get a pod XT. its got better and more sounds in there anyway, as well as the ability to save and edit using your computer.

right i'll look into that. thanks for the opinions, so maybe a multi-pedal and an amp would be a better choice.

Boss GT8 vs. PodXT maybe... any opinions?

pod, by far.

the GT-8 is cool, but the XT sounds better, has better effects and can do more tonally.

in a live setting though, i'd rather have the GT-8 than the XT. it's more durable and has more "amp friendly" tones vs. running a pod XT into the frontend of an amp.

so if im doing direct recording you'd recommend the pod... what if i'm planning on mic'ing an amp with effects in front of it? is the boss better in that application or do the pod's direct tones still win

micing an amp and pushing air through speakers will always sound better than digital modeling.

FACT.

no, but it's better than a pod.

lesser of two evils.

buy a small tube combo, crank it up real loud, put a ribbon mic in front of it, buy a few pedals. boom. instant amazing guitar sound.

loud amps in the studio never sound as good on tape.

Led Zeppelin I was entirely recorded with a 5 watt Supro combo and a Telecaster.

Oh, that reminds me. Just ordered the Champion 600. Very excited to put some ribbons on it.
