The use like seven amps each right? Each with compressors that are keyed off of the first one. That's how you churn guts.

Yeah i think so. I mean they had so much smoke going on when they were playing that that combined with their monstrous sound totally made everyone at the small Empty Bottle think twice about requesting an encore. They just crank up those amps play like one chord every 4 secs and call it a day. Funny thing is that guy on the laptop on stage with them doing God knows what on his laptop, probably dialing in the low frequency hum to make the dogs in the vicinity own bowels buuurn as well.

My opinion, one word "Muddy", not nearly enough deffinition. Plenty of low end though, I used to set up gear for the Redwalls and before justin made the switch to SVT w/ a fridge, he had a Sunn, which in my opinion was, as I said before, muddy as hell.

I've recorded Sunn amps and heard them live many a time. They are definitely smooth to the point where with the right (or wrong in this case) guitar and pedal setup they could be considered muddy. I prefer that type of tone to amps that are overly bright though. Somebody buy me one already!!!

echoing previous sentiments.
Suprisingly OK, with the right set up, can sound really good, but it's a little work. Also, tendency to be muddy. Just a step below sovtek amps in my opinion (though not as harsh/bright 2-5kish) for the cool-old-amps-that-noone-knows-about bracket.. Sunn can sound really Ballsy/ Buzzsaw-ish on guitar. As for bass guitar...I'd think of them more as an effects pedal, a color.

i saw sunn with borris recently at logan square auditorium; they had 9 full stacks up there.....i'm sure it was the loudest show i've ever been to. each chord change (may have been 4 or 5 total) pushed me back just a bit.....but it was a good time. i still felt the pressure pushing against my skin after the show was over. thankfully i wore earplugs! those were some muddy amps, or it could have been the venue; i'll have to go back and compare, but i've never heard anything good about their sound.

i've got a Sunn 300T tube bass head that i use all the time and adore it. It's built like a freaking tank and sounds better than any Ampeg SVT i've ever heard.

Those Sunn Model Ts are pretty sweet amps. You get a clean and a dirty channel on those, I believe, so they're not such one-trick ponies.

My dad used to have an old Sunn 100S or something from the late '60s or early '70s. Very vintage-type tube amp with a single channel. Unfortunately, he threw it out because he thought it would have been too much trouble to get it working properly again (it was pretty old and beat up). I winced when he told me that.
