Default BOSS DS-1 not distorting when all knobs set to midnight position

Hello!!!

I watch the movie on Gearwire about BOSS DS-1 (http://www.gearwire.com/boss-ds-1.html), which is really cool and helpfull, especially to people that are new to stomboxes.

However, when i set all the knobs on BOSS DS-1 to midnight position, I am still having clean sound. There is a little sustain, but the sound is still not distorted, unlike on the movie. I need to set the DIST knob to 2 o'clock to hear the pedal working. On the Gearwire movie i can hear that just little of DIST knob gives the distortion and midnight position gives a lot. I am not observing that with my DS-1 unit.

Can anyone explain to me why on this movie DS-1 provides a lot of distortion when all knobs are at midnight position, please? And not on mine.

Thanks a bunch,
Longinus
