I couple weeks ago I went Maken Music in Chicago and tried one of those AC-30 resissues. It sounded pretty good. Then I tried a Dr.Z Maz 38. It completely blew the Vox away. It sounded full in the low end, rich in the upper mids and sparkly in the high end. Rich in harmonic overtones. It basically sounded lke what I had hoped the Vox would sound like but didn't have. At around the same price I would much rather get a boutique amp like the Z. All hand made in the US. I saw Daniel Lanios play last month, he had a vintage Vox. It sounded absolutely amazing. The Dr. Z sounded much closer to his vintage AC-30 then the reissure VOX did.
Dr. Z rules.
