Default dynamic distortion

do any of you know of any sort of dynamic distortion pedal? i was imagining something that had an envelope follower on the input before the distortion, then a gain controll on the output of the distortion, using the envelope as the multiplier. doing this would preserve the dyanmics of your playing, while still giving you a mangled tone. i've built things like this before in computer world and with my nord micro mod, but haven't had the time to put it into a stombox form. there's always synth modules, but those usually aren't too floor friendly either. i guess ideally i would like an floor based envelope follower module that has input to the signal averager and then an input into the multiplier... so, i could use with any pedal that usually crushes the dynamics of the input. ideas??
