My friend is looking for a new head to rock. He is intrested in Hiwatt, but we really have no idea what else to try. He has been playing a Fender Super Reverb for years with a Hagsrtom III. Amps we have ruled out through trial are: JCM900 and 2000.
Please offer your opinions on anything

The Koch Powertone II is hands down the best head I ever heard for rock, if you can afford it. Sale price around $2,200

There are far too many great amps out there to settle on a single one, but my Rivera M100 head is a fantastic amp. Rivera stuff sounds great, is rock solid, and is probably the biggest bargain out there for boutique stuff (it sounds a good deal more expensive than the $800-$900 prices a lot of the heads get on eBay).

I've been playing through a Kustom Quad 100 for the last year. It has a warm clean tone and 2 types of overdrive. One is more of a garage tone while the other is more Boogie-like. I bought it as a back up and now use it as my main amp. It's not a Hi-Watt but sounds great for an amp you can get for under $300 new.
