I believe Sovtek owns both the Electro-Harmonix and Svetlana names now. The company formerly known as Svetlana before the Sovtek buyout is now selling tubes under the name SED. As for Groove Tubes, they buy tubes from various Russian and Chinese manufacturers and screen them for the ones that meet their particular requirements for selling.

JJ/Telsa tubes are made in Slovakia, and Shuguang tubes are of course Chinese. Not that you asked!

Default 12ax7 recommendations?

so after 6 years, im considering upgrading my three peamp tubes in my ampeg bass amp. It seems like there are several different options available for 12ax7s. I prefer a high gain tube tone in the preamp, what are your recommendations? so far i am interested in the electroharmonix 12ax7 and the Ei 12AX7 / ECC83, anyone familiar with the Mazda Grey Plate 12AX7 from france?

I'm not familiar with those Mazda tubes--are those new old stock? I wasn't aware of any factories outside of Russia, China, and Eastern Europe currently producing tubes.

I like the Tung-Sol 12AX7 reissues--I have them in V1 and V2 of my guitar amp right now and I get great clean and gain tones. I have 9th gen. Shuguangs in the other three tube slots, and those aren't bad either--they're great for high-gain tones. Also maybe look into the JJ/Tesla high-gain ECC83.

i have a tung-sol 12ax7 gold pin and it sounds amazing. it's supposed to be cleaner and quiter than the regular tung-sol 12ax7; it's pricy, but totally worth it.
