Default half stack

i'm looking into purchasing an amp to start giging again; i need some suggestions for a head and cab (seperate or together) that is inexpensive. tube preferably, with a good clean sound with accurate, tight bass response. what do you all suggest?

I would check out the Ashdown stuff, preety durable, and sounds great, also Hartke makes a cheap cab with celestion speakers.....

How inexpensive do you mean? I hear the Peavey Valve Kings are about the best you can do as far as a cheap tube amp. I think the heads sell for less than $500 new.

I highly recommend NOT going with that Hartke cab. A friend of mine has used one of those and I've been very unsatisfied with the sound that comes out of it. It just sounds really cheap and doesn't give you the true feeling of what celestions should do for you anyway. The caster also broke off like a month after he purchased it. Shame...I really like their bass rigs.

i'm not into peavey, period. i don't think i've heard anything they've done that i've liked. as for how inexpensive, well 2k or under for both together.

Ah, that's a kind of different definition of inexpensive than I was thinking! You should be able to get a great used amp for a grand or so--I think the Mesa Mark IVs go for around that, and you can pick up Rivera heads for $800 or $900 (even less sometimes). That kind of money gives you a lot of choices. What kind of tones are you after?

Being totally honest about this one:
Line 6 Bass POD XT:

any kind of slave in head (so you can avoid using whatever preamp they have) and
Behringer Bass Cab:

that's if you really want to go on the dirt cheap point and still get tons of sound options.

That Beringer fridge looks pretty awesome but I think he's looking for guitar gear.

I dunno man, I don't see any way that Behringer cab would be very good. I wouldn't trust it not to fall apart under the stress of 8 10" speakers vibrating.

Anyway, yeah, I think the question here is on guitar gear.
