I was at Guitar Center the other day, and for a lark I tried out the little Vox AD15VT 15 watt modeling combo. It sounded surprisingly nice. You do get that kind of harshness in the top end on the high-gain models, but some of the models sounded really good and were fun to play with (the AC30, the UK '80s, and the Blackface were my favorites). I'd consider getting one of those to have around the house just to mess around with and maybe record a little. Does anyone have experience with using the direct out on those like you would with a POD? The little 8" speaker is pretty far on the cheap side and I think it'd be tough to get a decent tone out of it by miking it.

i think the tonelab is based off of the same technologies, i think the tonelab sounds great as a tube preamp or plugged into a guitar amp. I recommend that over any boss or line 6 multieffects/amp modeler

Yeah, I definitely preferred the models in the AD15VT to what I was hearing when I used my friend's PodXT Live. Maybe it's the tube in the power stage that makes the difference, but I think part of it is in the models themselves. I'm thinking this would be a nice little amp to own so I didn't have to wait for my Rivera head to warm up every time I wanted to play, and to maybe put some chimey AC30 sounds on recordings.
