I saw this but on a better site last night where it had samples and videos. I can't find the other site I saw now. http://news.com.com/2300-11398_3-600...tag=ne.gall.pg

that sounds pretty cool to me; espically since i have a huge bank of alternate tunings from which to choose from. i wonder how much this will cost. i wouldn't buy it though, yet; because there are probably a million things that can and will go wrong with it.

Thumbs up

Well, I think those guitars look really awesome. That is such an ingenious idea, tune at the touch of a button. I imagine it affects the sound as well as adding about 5 or so lbs to it. But if it performs flawlessly, well worth the sacrifice. Is the day of the guitartech coming to an end? Well, I guess we'll still need someone who can see straight to plug in our pedals for us and change our strings, right?

Interesting idea. If it can tune itself in the middle of a song while you are playing, then that is the plus. One of the worst feelings is playing through a song while you are a bit out of tune and not being able to fix it. Coming soon: The living organic guitar that will play itself for you and change its own strings.

Maybe I'm turning into an old fart, but doesn't it seem like if people use those they'll just never learn how to tune a guitar for real? It would be nice to be able to press a button and be back in tune if you went out of tune in the middle of a song, but I don't think beginners should be allowed to use something like this. I don't think they should be allowed to use electronic tuners exclusively either--if you don't know how to tune a guitar by ear, you're missing some fundamental knowledge of the instrument.

The thing is you can switch tunings in the middle of a set (or song) in a matter of less than one second. Not just tune back up, but completely alternate tunings. The video I was looking for he was playing a Jimmy Page song in standard tuning, then switched to to the alternate tuning Page used to wriite the song. Next he did it for a Keith Richards song, same idea. That was what caught my attention. Actually... I started thinking I wanted to write down those alternate tunings, cause there's no way I'm getting a self-tuning guitar.

exactly what I was going to say. I think I remember seeing Page playing cashmere with a setup like this (w/ puff daddy...remember that track?) I remember thinking "what is that thing on his guitar?"
