I got a twelve string version myself. I think interest in them died down after everyone figured out how bad they sounded.

They're still available. However, most places don't carry them for some reason. I have my own guitar which is a Italia which is very similar in a way to a Dano but I know that THE plexi-glass single-coil vibration sound is solely in the realm of Danelectro right now since most of other mass market companies won't produce such a item xcept Italia and Switch. I do however see them pop up on craigslist alot for a cheap price.

Yeah, they never did anything for me. I agree with dagosto, their obsolescence is due to the sound quality. But the actual reason......I have no idea.

I agree there's not much to the tone and another problem I've seen is bad neck problems. Easy warping.

That brings up a great point, guitars not made of wood are much less forgiving when it comes to warpage or bows.

Another probable reason why they are no longer made is because the company is focusing on cheap as hell pedals and making bank on it. The pedals don't sound too bad either.

ahhh ok, yea, to be honest, i never really played one, but i seemed to recall they were really popular a few years back. They looked snazzy, but obviously, they didnt sound good. I always wondered why they are no longer around. thanks for the answers!

ps i have a variax 300, and one of the guitars it emulates is a dan electro electric, so i guess i have played one, sort of...???

nope, you haven't. the variax was one of the most disappointing pieces of gear i've ever used. nothing sounds like the emulations they're going for. Line6 should stick to pedals and pods.
