what are the benefits to playing an electric guitar out in stereo? do you need a stereo guitar to do that? ala rickenbacker 12 string? i think my friend has another 12 string electric with stereo out. but creatively speaking, what can stereo out do for your electric guitar? plusses? minuses?

I can imagine a big advantage would be with using stereo effects like delays, phasers, flangers etc. in full on stereo mode with a stereo amp. So you can have a mindmelting solo with autopan that sound likes a buzz saw cutting you across the ears. Or you can dedicate one side of the stereo to two different amps and get like a dual guitar duel going on there.

Yeah stereo effects would be mind warping for the band on the stage and the front row but so many house sound system run in mono.
Off topic - I saw Six Finger Sattelite at the Fireside and they had a special vocal delay speaker set up at the back of the room, where the merch usually was. It might be cool to have one amp dedicated to each pickup so the bottom could be from the neck and the high could come from the bridge. Those could stack on top of each other. One could be fuzzy and the other beefy. |

You could put each out into a different amp. The different frequency responses and distance from each other will crreate certain constructive an destructive acoustical interferances. This will give you a more three dimensional sound. You could also use two different delays on each out one with a short time with feedback, the other with a longer time without feedback. Hey, now you're The Edge!
