Mine would be either Electro's Deluxe Memory Man which has great chorus fx on the delays and my Zoom GFX-04's RV/DLY sounds way better than Boss's old trash heap of reverb-delay!

My experience with delays is minimal but I am not afraid to jump on the DL4 (Line 6) bandwagon. That thing rocks!

The DL4 is not too shabby. Some presets lower the volume considerably though. One day, I'll be able to afford the Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. That thing is sweet!

Don't get me wrong, I love the memory man, but I adore my DD-5. If the memory man could some how be tap tempoed, i'd be in delay heaven.
I HATE the DD6 with a passion though. The tap tempo on that thing is awful. |

You can really create some amazing delay pedals with the Pod XT Live. It comes with simulations of the Deluxe Memory Man, Echoplex, Space Echo, ping-pong, and reverse delays and others. Of course you can only get so close to the originals that they are copying, but with a little tweaking you can customize a world of delays. I avoided buying a Pod thinking that it would be a poor substitution for the pedals I was using. Instead of thinking about the original, just see the delays as similar templates. You'll find sounds that will match or beat about any delay out there. Just for straight pedals Memory Man and Boss delays are great. If The Pod didn't exist, I'd still be chaining together a few Boss delays.

I use the boss DD-5. It's the only delay pedal that I've ever used extensively. I do not like those digital pedal boxes, because of the delay involved; I like my effects to start the second I step on the pedal. I recently bought a footswitch that I use for tap delay, but I'm not too skillful in the department. I like the overall control that the DD-5 provides. I hope it never breaks on me!!!

Aside from the aforementioned Pod XT Live, which I love for fx including delay, the Digitech 2101 has some really kick arse delays on it, and is quite programmable. Oh yeah, they both have quite reliable tap tempo as well.
The place where the Pod wins between the 2 is, the Digitech has a noticeable dropout between switches patches. On the other hand, the Digitech is tube, so there's a little more warmth coming from it. One of my favorite FREAK OUT things to do on the Pod is to assign the pedal to control the delay time, and you can get stuff zipping around like total outer space insanity. Couple with a cavernous reverb to taste. |
