Default Alesis X Guitar with Built-In Effects

anybody out there ever try this guitar with built in effects? The Alesis X Guitar with Built-In Effects. just wondering if it would be a cool gift for my nephew. Are there any other guitars out there with built in effects? i cant think of any, except for old retro guitars from the 60s. it seems like a great idea, what'r the drawbacks? are they prone to breaking down? thnx

Fernandes Nomads have built-in effects as well, if you get Japanese made kitschy ones they're even cooler:

Just to add on those types of guitars, I believe the biggest drawback is the necessity to provide power to them. It's pretty inconvenient to have a wall wart sticking out of your guitar while you play. All of them can run on batteries, so if you get yourself a pair of rechargeable NiMH batteries that's probably the most cost and grief effective route to take. Most of the effects they have in those guitars are taken directly from DSP chips they use in their multi-fx pedalboards.

those look kind of neat! i've heard of distortion built in (with the flip of a switch) on a guitar, and a few bands taping pedals to the guitar itself; but i've never seen one of those multi-effects units built in!

This weekend I saw something I'd never seen before - an extension cord for the barrel-type power supply wall wart thingy. So they exist, in case you need to run 20 feet of 9V DC around the stage...
