For some reason this piqued my intrest . After a bit of reading I am under the impression that most frets themselves are made of some percentage of nickel. I've found no-nickel fret wire on warmoth made entirely of copper, but that isn't what is on your average guitar.
I found a little bit on allergic reactions to the skin, that sucks. Nothing extensive though....
I guess Elixir might be the right thing, whichever one is the coating which does not shed as much? I can never remember which one that is since I don't play them.

Yeah. I was thinking stainless steel strings at first, but even those are part nickel. Somehow on my search I ended up finding a page with links to manufacturers for allergen-free products, one was Goretex and linked to guitar strings. Aparently they make Elixir.

yea, i gave them the contact information for a few string manufacturers....including elixir. i just remember seeing 10k gold strings a long time ago and wondered how practical they would be, and if they had nickel themselves.

That would be Kip Addotta. You can find it on the Dr. Demento compilation cd's.

I never even really though about what my strings are made of. I use DRs. They are apparently stainless steel. Whatever they are, they're some radical strings.
