I'm looking to buy a new practice amp, old one blew out. I'm on a 150$ max budget (Don't need anything big, but at least a 15 watt) I'd like something that sounds good to plug pedals into etc, as well as has a good overdrive channel. I play a lot of heavier stuff like Metallica, Trivium, Disturbed, etc. but also older stuff like Zeppelin, Sabbath, Rush and the like, so I need some good range in tones, hopefully not asking too much
![]() As of right now i'm looking at a Fender Frontman 25 watt, any suggestions? |

Peavey Transtube series is the best. The Rage 258 is 25W, 8" speaker, and sounds incredible for $119. Really, you CANNOT buy a better sounding amp for the money - you can't buy an amp that sounds half as good for $200. I used to play one before I became a gear snob and now only use handwired tube amps (or I wire them myself, cuz I make em better ::wink:
, but this little amp is the way to go for you budget. PERIOD. I even gave you a link.http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...ogy?sku=481336 They also make a 15W version with Reverb for the same price (the rage 258 doesnt have reverb). http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...erb?sku=481372 You choose, Power or Reverb, and for $119 you won't be disappointed. +1 for the micro cube. Its low in price yet really a great amp and can get really loud.
for some situations you can plug it into a PA system or just mic it. the FX on it are just amazing for its size and price. I started out on it and still use it for gigs |

Lately i've been eyeing a Spider II, but I hear they're terrible for metal, anyone second this?

I would believe the Valve Junior by Epiphone is a steal for practicing:
![]() Or my own personal fave, not sold anymore in it's original incantation with a an actual spring reverb, the Marshall MG15CDR:

i second the nomination for the valve jr. for a few dollars extra though, invest in some better tubes. the stock ones usually go pretty quickly, and don't sound so hot. plus, it's easy to mod (according to a few sites).

I suggest staying away from MG marshals...they tend to break down easily from what I've heard at the ultimate guitar board
the JMC is a great distortion amp IMO...really pricy and huge though... |
