Default Drist - Decontrol: How do they get this effect?

I'm trying to figure out how they did this effect and how I can get.

The song: Drist - Decontrol
about 2:15 in the song this effect takes place...

I like to call it the "Wind down" effect

http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/3ekbs

I'm guessing they use a whammy bar on the guitar but I don't have that on my PRS...may be a whammy pedal is next up on the list for pedals to get

If it's what I think it is ( The dive bomb. ) Then that's just them holding out a note and dropping that bar, WHILE either turning down the volume on their guitar or using a volume pedal.

looked up dive bomb on google

http://www.xtrememusician.com/info/g...hniques/7.html

"How to do it:

Play an open note and use the whammy bar to lower the note rapidly until the whammy bar is pressed against the guitar body. For an explosive effect, shake whammy bar rapidly at the end of the dive bomb."

so yea its a whammy bar, not a volume pedal.
now i need a whammy pedal...or is it cheaper to get a whammy bar?

it's a harmony which is then dive bombed (either with whammy bar or a whammy pedal).

I've never used a whammy pedal, And some guitars don't allow for a tremolo. The tremolo of course is the natural way to go, But you have to have the bridge for it.

Actually it sound more like a tape stop effect to me. The final part of the decay tail is the give away. I have used a vst that gives this effect. It is free on this page:

http://hem.bredband.net/tbtaudio/

There are other freebies on the page but the one I'm talking about is called "TapeStop" ironically enough.

I think it's just a chorused dive bomb that fades out.

save your money on the whammy and look on ebay for the Whammy II. here's my reasoning:

the newest whammy pedals, althought modeled after the original WH-1 Whammy has some flaws. They've changed the chip that's in the unit, so the tone is drastically different than whammys of the past (and not in a good way), the switching from different modes is all done with a rotary knob (unless you have a dedicated midi controller to use with the unit, which would need a quite large midi controller to really do anything with it), and the pedals themselves have been known to "freeze up" where the power supply will get wonky, freeze the pedal, and you'll have to either unplug the power supply and plug it back in to fix it or in some occurances, buy a new pedal (it's happened to two bands I know that have this pedal).

The whammy II has the same chip as the original WH-1, which will give that classic whammy tone, has footswitchable whammy selecting, and hasn't frozen on me once. If i ever lose this pedal, I'll buy another one in a HEARTBEAT. It's become one of two pedals that has been a constant on my pedalboard as long as I can remember. You can find them on ebay for about $150-200 and they're WELL worth it.

Thanks I'll look into the whammy two and get it if i can get a better deal one one in good shape compared to a new one from musiciansfriend.com
I really dont need anything top notch and working all the time. I play for fun and record out of the house at times...no gigs

I'm also swapping out the danelectro talk box for the Rocktron unit as the reviews are better for its slight price increase

Only thing is I still don't have any job and have applied to about 5 places though their site...I'm waiting for them to get back to me at this point

I hope I work at best buy.....I hear they give an amazing discount for workers

anyways.....it could be a few months until I can get some money for pedals...
