I totally agree with megaman, more so than any other influence that i am aware of, this music affected me profoundly when i was younger. you may say that megaman's music was my first real influence. i've recently downloaded tons of remixes, re-workings, and covers of these songs; or the songs themselves. the opening song of megaman 3 is fantastic btw.

I just like the music from cheesy games like Super Adventure Island, Mario, Rescue Rangers and stuff.

1 - Contra
2 - Dr. Mario (I will kill any of you at this game)
3 - Metroid
4 - Guardian Legend
5 - Master Blaster

I had to leave some stuff out where it's a series and all the music rules. SMB, Final Fantasy, Zelda, a few others. My old death metal band used to open with a medley of "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" and the opera from Final Fantasy 3, which is perhaps the best RPG ever.

Ha, I just picked that up for my old N64. Paid a whopping $4.95 at Hollywood Video!

It does have some cool music and sound design, but sheesh am I SICK of running around looking for something to kill in that game!

I also liked the bebop-ish stuff in SimCity 3000 a few years back.

Can't forget the music to the Sonic The Hedgehog games. Totally crucial.
