4. Back to Basics, Christina Aguilera
5. A Public Affair, Jessica Simpson

well, i guess you can look at the competition and see why... is (commercial) rock and roll dead? haha of course not, silly...

this totally reminds me of the period of time right before nirvana broke out in a huge way. i bet another huge band comes along really soon, and a whole new rock music genre (ala grunge) takes hold... any predicitions?

I've been thinking about that too. With pre-processed teeny bopper pop stars, american idol and the same old generic stuff coming through the pipelines, someone has got to be doing something entirely different than that and looking at what the next big thing is.

Honestly, I've said it before... It's MySpace superstars. People with hundreds of thousands of friends who are only known for the fact that they're huge on myspace are now gracing covers of magazines, selling endorsements, whatnot... who's to say something like that wont happen for music?

Fact of the matter is, music on TV has become a thing of the past. MTV is now dozens of reality shows, drama tv and teeny bopper imagery. Videos are not as standard as they could be. You don't even get to see a full video on MTV most of the time, it's usually just a clip.

With sites like YouTube and MySpace out and about, people don't need to wait by the TV to see or hear the things they want, they can just find it immediately.

The next rockstar will be an internet rockstar.
