for the most part it will void a warranty. repairs are one thing, modifying the piece of equipment makes it a different product.

yea, i figured so... it is interesting though, that some companies actually promote mods, like, for instance line6 suggests that you could mod out the variax guitar necks, and they even post the neck manufacturers weblink on the line6 website. but that might be an odd exception to the rule...

see, that's different. You're unbolting a neck and putting it on. if you were unsetting your neck, re-routing the pocket for a guitar, taking a file to make it flat and changing the guitar, that's one thing. a replacement part isn't really a mod unless it changes the guitar.

are mods pretty common to do on like guitar pedals? what's the most common type of mods? is it mostly just upgrading shoddy wiring or potentiometers? do mods make a huge difference in sound quality?

lots of mods are the result of controlled circuit bending often devoping ways of making cheap garbage into an interesting effect, the best of them employing a switch or pot to make this an optional effect.

other mods employ upgrades to more expensive components or remove an unnecessary feature that hurts the overall quality of a cheaper unit.
People do this on anything from microphones to preamps and signal processors.

Oktava mk319's are real popular to mod. There was a lot happening with that when g c was selling them.

I'll try get some mods up here soon. to clarify this description

Generally, Satering ( Typo for sure. ) will void a warrenty. I'm not real up to pace on all of the companys rules and regs', But that's a bare rule. ( Sometimes you can get away with a mod without changing anything, Generally Aligator clips can only be used on head or guitar mods, Though. ) Before you mod, I'd suggest you consider the following: How much did you put into the peice of equipment, How much coul you loose, Can you get another. ( I say the last one because I've seen guys fry vintage amps because he didn't know what he was doing; A moment of silence for that JTM... )
