I've done this mod a couple times and it works really well especially if you have a nice metalized polypropylene capacitor

I also figured out a way to make a cabinet on/off switch that feeds the output in both positions.
This requires using a dpdt switch.
1.Routing the black or ground wire through both the speaker and the load resistor to the ground position on the 1/4" jack
2. route the green or hot wire to the first terminal on the switch straight out of the preamp
3. take the off position of that pole to one end of the load resistor and back to the off position of the second pole of the switch.
4. take the on position of the first pole, or "input pole", and run it where the hot wire was originally going into the speaker. Take the corresponding terminal at the other end of the speaker back to the "on" position on the output pole of the dpdt switch.
5. Run the center terminal of the of the output pole to through the resistor and to the output.
I'll try to get a schematic up on the wiki eventually and link it.
